The IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards (S1 and S2) are increasingly shaping global sustainability reporting. To provide transparency on how different countries are adopting or using these standards, the IFRS Foundation has developed jurisdictional profiles and snapshots. Understanding these helps organizations, investors, and regulators monitor progress and align reporting practices internationally.
About jurisdictional profiles
In May 2024, the IFRS Foundation announced its plan to publish jurisdictional profiles through the Inaugural Jurisdictional Guide. These profiles:
Are informed by bilateral discussions with jurisdictions
Follow the methodology outlined in Section 3.4 of the Guide
Provide transparency to capital markets, regulators, and stakeholders on the adoption or use of ISSB Standards
Profiles are prepared when a jurisdiction’s sustainability reporting approach is finalized or no longer under consultation. This typically occurs when jurisdictions:
Have formally announced or finalized their decisions on adoption or other use of ISSB Standards; or
Have introduced sustainability-related disclosure requirements
Each profile outlines the current and planned approach of the jurisdiction, including key elements of the regulatory framework. The profiles are developed through cooperation with local authorities and with input from international audit firms, ensuring accuracy and rigor.
Jurisdictions with finalized profiles
As of now, the IFRS Foundation has published profiles for the following jurisdictions:
Australia
Bangladesh
Brazil
Chile
Ghana
Hong Kong SAR
Jordan
Kenya
Malaysia
Mexico
Nigeria
Pakistan
Sri Lanka
Chinese Taipei
Tanzania
Türkiye
Zambia
Jurisdictional snapshots
For jurisdictions that have finalized their approach but whose full profiles are still in development, or whose regulatory status is still in progress, the IFRS Foundation provides snapshots.
Snapshots offer a high-level overview of the proposed regulatory framework
They provide timely information for markets on jurisdictions taking steps toward ISSB Standards adoption
Snapshots may differ from final profiles, as they are based on preliminary information
Countries with published snapshots include:
Bolivia
Canada
China
Japan
Philippines
Rwanda
Thailand
Uganda
United Kingdom
Costa Rica
El Salvador
Indonesia
Singapore
South Korea
Switzerland
Zimbabwe
Important considerations
The information in profiles and snapshots is for general guidance only and may change over time
Organizations should seek professional advice before taking action based on these resources
Profiles and snapshots illustrate extent of application of IFRS Sustainability Standards but do not reflect intellectual property licensing of the Standards
Key takeaways for organizations
Stay informed of jurisdiction-specific sustainability reporting requirements
Monitor updates to profiles and snapshots to ensure compliance with local regulations
Use IFRS Sustainability Standards to enhance transparency, comparability, and trust with investors and stakeholders
The IFRS Foundation’s jurisdictional profiles and snapshots provide a global view of sustainability reporting progress, offering organizations a valuable resource to navigate evolving regulatory landscapes while maintaining alignment with international best practices.
